This will be the Maya Train station in Escárcega, Campeche

• Escárcega is considered the heart of the Mayan Train as it unites the Sections 1, 2 and 7 of the railway system
• The station will have three tracks and two platforms, as well as a multimodal area of transport services

Escárcega Campeche, January 4, 2022.- The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) presented the proposed conceptual art for the Mayan Train station that will be located in Escárcega, Campeche.

The station will have three tracks and two platforms that will cover the social and logistical demand of the area, which is projected to detonate the rebirth of the city as it is the meeting point of the train route to the south, north and east of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Also, it is expected to have a multimodal transport zone, where bus services, taxis,
combis, motorcycles and bicycles.

The station’s architecture is inspired by the region’s chicle legacy.

The play of light observed by the chicleros founders in the jungle was the trigger for the station’s design. The ventilation of the building dialogues with natural light, foliage, industrialization, habits emanating from train schedules and even with the chemical formula of rubber.

In order to integrate the station that will be part of the daily life of the Escárcega community, materials related to the industrialization of the chiclero period are contemplated. This is the case of apparent concrete, the use of limestone in walls and metallic structures that match the same color as the rails of the first train.

In turn, for the raised roofs a wood was selected that recalls that used in the chiclero camps, which expand the space, control the passage of the winds and regulate the temperature.

The Mayan Train station in Escárcega will be a deeply rooted space, which will create conditions of hospitality taking into account the local population and travelers.

Being in the future projected as a development center for the region because it is a station that will allow the connection of the Yucatan peninsula.

Escárcega is considered the heart of the Mayan Train since Section 1 that goes from Palenque, Chiapas to Escárcega, Campeche converge; Section 2 from Escárcega to Calkiní, Campeche and Section 7 that includes from Bacalar, Quintana Roo to Escárcega, Campeche.

The office in charge of the architectural design of the Escárcega station is ARCH + DE Consultoría.
