Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is one of the masterpieces of classical music that represents Beethoven’s creative genius and humanistic vision. Composite between 1818 and 1824, when Beethoven had already lost his sense of hearing, this symphony is the last one completed by the German composer and the first to incorporate choral singing in a work of this genre.

The Carlos Chávez School Orchestra (OECCh), the Symphonic Choir of the National Musical Development System (SNFM), both from Mexico City, will be accompanied by the Campeche Symphony Orchestra (OSCAM) and the Voces del Carmen Choir, to create a magnificent ensemble that will make Beethoven’s work sound in the heart of the Historic Center of Campeche this Wednesday, December 20, at 8:00 p.m., in the atrium of the Cathedral.

The orchestras will come together to play the four movements of the 9th Symphony, each one forming its own character and meaning. The first is a maestoso and dramatic allegro, which introduces the main theme of the symphony, based on an ascending and descending four-note melody.

The second is a lively and rhythmic scherzo, which contrasts with the third, a singable adagio, which evokes an atmosphere of peace and serenity.

The fourth and last movement is the most famous and revolutionary of the work, as it incorporates four soloists and a choir who sing the poem Ode to Joy by Friedrich Schiller, a hymn to the brotherhood and freedom of human beings.

Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is a work that transcends time, which marked a before and after in symphonic music, and shows the ability of art to express the deepest emotions and ideals of humanity. The Carlos Chávez School Orchestra was created in 1990 and is a laboratory of musical education and expression that places them within the environment and work of the professional musician.

The SNFM Symphonic Choir was created in 2006 and its main activity has focused on the choral symphonic repertoire with great universal works, while the Oscam is the most important orchestral group in the state of Campeche.

With the Great Concert, the series of symphonies by the genius Beethoven that the Government headed by Layda Sansores San Román, through the Institute of Culture and Arts, has offered throughout the year and at the International Festival of the Historic Center of Campeche 2023 concludes triumphantly. , which closes with a message of peace and reflection, offering a unique and unforgettable musical experience for the people of Campeche. —
