In the Atlantic Season of Tropical Rains and Cyclones begins

With the start of the 2020 Tropical Rain and Cyclone Season, in the Atlantic Ocean, Governor Carlos Miguel Aysa González called on the three orders of government to work in coordination to guarantee the protection and safeguard of the population.

Within the working meeting of the State Council for Civil Protection, the governor assured that the organism is ready to face the season that is expected to be active with the formation between 15 and 19 tropical cyclones.

He also asked the population to be calm, take their providence and stay informed of the weather forecast and the warnings that the alert system issues by official media.

From part of the ,Secretary General of the Government, Pedro Armentía López, asked the officials to strengthen the coordination of efforts and to reinforce prevention measures that ensure the care and help that is necessary for the inhabitants.

Earlier, the Secretary of Civil Protection, Edgar Hernández Hernández, explained that  more active seasons are expected for the Atlantic than  normally occurs, since the presence of between 15 and 19 systems are forecast, of which 8 to 10  would be tropical storms; between 4 and 5 would be category 1 or 2 hurricanes, and between 3 and 4 could be intense category 3, 4 or 5 hurricanes.

Regarding the rainy season, he commented that the semi-annual perspective of precipitations issued by the National Meteorological Service indicates that this is in the normal range, that is, with habitual precipitations to the customary ones, although some accumulated slightly above normal, in June and October.

The official reported that work is ongoing on a permanent basis with the National Civil Protection Coordination and with municipal authorities throughout the state, prevention issues have been addressed.

He added that  563 temporary shelters that currently exist to serve more than 52 thousand people, it will adjust with the health protocols  COVID-19, so that the capacity will be reduced to fulfill with the healthy distance. He added that in light of this, the location of new spaces is already underway to have the same shelter sufficiency.

He reported that in the municipalities the activation of the civil protection councils are carrying out the risk of preparation and mitigation actions that have been promoted with the cleaning of sewers, drains, wells and channels; revision of posts, infrastructure and trees that represent in some risk.

Also, he mentioned, the review of inventories of material and human resources has begun, as well the dissemination of preventive information to reduce risks and to know what to do in an emergency situation.
