Given the current hot season in Campeche, the Health Secretariat of the Executive Power of the State urges the population to reinforce preventive measures  from the sun and heat, as well hygiene, handling, preparation and food consumption.

To avoid heat stroke and dehydration, the institution recommends is to drink two liters of water a day to stay hydrated, not exposing yourself to the sun for 11 to 15 hours. Period when the temperature reaches its highest levels, use light-colored  clothing, sunscreen, a cap or hat, sunglasses and an umbrella; You must stay in cool places and ventilate the car before getting in..

To avoid diarrheal diseases, it is necessary measures must be taken when handling, preparing and consuming food and beverages, such as washing hands with soap and water before preparing them, and disinfecting with chlorine all surfaces and equipment used.

Vegetables, fruits, and legumes should be washed with soap and water, disinfected with chlorine or colloidal silver, meat and organ meats should be washed, food should be protected in closed containers, and kitchen areas should be kept free from insects, pets, and should not be allowed to sick people handle food.

The intense heat can quickly decompose food, so it is recommended not to keep food leftover and boil them for 5 minutes if they are refrigerated; They should be consumed well cooked and hot and be aware of their expiration date, as well as cleaning canned products or those that are in tightly closed glass jars.

On the other hand, due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, you can suffer «heat stroke», and the symptoms to identify them are weakness, headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, acceleration of the heartbeat, and in severe cases: hot, dry, but not sweaty, red skin, fast, pounding heartbeat, confusion or unconsciousness, trouble breathing, involuntary contraction of muscles.

For this reason, it is recommended to be located in a cool, shaded and ventilated place, damp cloths should be applied to the body, especially on the forehead and neck, drink small sips of water, remove unnecessary clothing to cool off, and go to the nearest health unit.

Self-medication and especially antibiotics should be avoided at all times. Only the doctor is trained and authorized to prescribe  medications.
