«Today more than ever we need you, voluntary blood donation continues in times of COVID-19», with this call to raise awareness among the population, the Secretary of Health of the State Executive Power commemorates «World Blood Donor Day» , one of the most important actions to save lives.

The director of the State Center for Blood Transfusion (CETS), Virginia Peña Hernández, reported that the theme of the 2020 Campaign for World Blood Donor Day is «Safe blood saves lives», and the slogan «Donate blood so that the world is a healthier place. «

«This Sunday, June 14, we commemorate the day of the donor and today more than ever we require the solidarity support of people who are able to donate blood,»

she emphasized.

In addition to all the security processes already known to Banco de Sangre, from the beginning of the quarantine the CETS implements protection measures such as: use of mandatory mouth covers, masks, application of alcohol gel, frequent handwashing on staff and users, healthy distance in all processes and sanitation every two hours in areas and equipment, making blood donation a safe and comfortable process.

This celebration aims to increase blood collection from unpaid donors, provide quality care to donors, promote and apply appropriate clinical use of blood, and monitoring the entire chain of blood transfusion.

«We invite all people to come to our CETS facilities, which is available 365 days a year from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., where we guarantee their safety with all the protection measures by COVID- 19 with filters and sanitary measures implemented by our staff, «insisted Peña Hernández.
